Seedcamp
Seedcamp is one of Europe’s leading pre-seed and seed stage venture capital firms. They identify and invest early in world-class founders, attacking global markets and solving real problems using technology.
Overview of Seedcamp
The Seedcamp nation includes 500 start-ups. Their mission is to accelerate a founder’s vision and create value through providing immediate access to smart capital, a global network and a community of support. Whether it’s support in finding product market fit, building sales or marketing capabilities, Seedcamp is devoted to help standout start-ups through the hardships of the fundraising process.
Since its inception, the company has backed Europe’s most aspiring startups, investing across all verticals and technologies. With some of the largest raises in Europe, public listings, acquisitions by major companies, and multi-billion dollar valuations.
History
Seedcamp started out in 2007 as a small “micro-fund” in Europe with EUR 2.5 million in cash from a handful of trusting investors. Their achievements have come from their great ambition and belief in European entrepreneurs having the ability and chance to compete on a global scale.
Remarkable Investments
Among Seedcamps start-ups are well-known fintech unicorns Wise (formerly Transferwise, also backed by Errol Damelin) and Revolut, cloud-based ‘decacorn’ UiPath, one of the fastest growing companies in history, event platform Hopin, as well as Pointy, which was acquired by Google, wefox, Ezra, viz.ai and Stupefix was acquired by GoPro.
Three years after the close of Fund IV, at approximately €67.5 million (£60 million), Seedcamp announced the €87.9 million (£78 million) first and final close of a heavily oversubscribed fifth fund to continue its Europe-wide mission. Sponsored by over 100 institutional investors, such as British Patient Capital, Legal & General, TIFF, LGT, Vintage IP, Isomer Capital, OMERS and some of the worlds most impactful venture capital funds, such as Index, Sequoia, Underscore VC, Northzone, Atomico and Draper Esprit and alongside some of Europe’s top angel investors and Seedcamp founders.
News
Fund V is the largest and most ambitious fund to date. They have increased the amount of capital they invest in pre-seed and seed stage companies and will reserve capital for follow-on rounds up to Series B, thus allowing founders to continue to benefit from Seedcamps support.
Although fundraising for both companies and VCs can be demanding, Seedcamp has great experience and ability in navigating through economic downturns. From starting out in the middle of the economic crash to raising Fund IV under the cloud of Brexit and the triggering of Article 50, and now Fund V fully remotely during COVID-19, Seedcamp always overcomes the challenges they face.
