Brief History
Established in 1982, Investcorp has since made more than 175 major corporate investments in Europe, the United States, the Middle East and North Africa. Investcorp launched its service offering with the aim of offering a range of alternative investments in a range of sectors to high-net-worth private and institutional clients. Investcorp’s vision was based on an ambitious, but also prudent strategy. Over a period of over 35 years the company has grown from strength to strength and at December 2017 the group had a US$22 billion in total AUM, which includes a non-discretionary advisory mandate and assets managed by third-party managers. The company employs almost 400 people across the globe.
Geographically
With offices in London, New York City, Bahrain, Riyadh, Doha, Abu Dhabi and Singapore the company manages investment portfolios for clients across the globe. Investcorp’s London-based investment team has a strong investment presence throughout Europe. The company is focused on investment opportunities in mid-sized companies with headquarters in Europe. The European investment team located in London is comprised of investment professionals from the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Sweden and the Netherlands.
Significant Investments
Investcorp acquired the Italian company Gucci, known as one of Europe’s top luxury brands in 1989 until 1993. Gucci was floated in 1996. Acquired in 2003 and sold again in 2006, the bed and mattress manufacturer Hilding Anders was another significant European investment for Investcorp. In 2004 Investcorp acquired the European parking management providers Apcoa, headquartered in Stuttgard, Germany, before selling it again in 2007. Yet another significant European investment is in Moody International, a global technical services organisation that specialises in reducing risk in the oil and gas industry, which is headquartered in Hayward Heath, United Kingdom.
Investcorp in the News
In March 2018 it was reported in Hedgeweek that Investcorp has formed a partnership with strategy investor Shoals Capital Management. It was announced in early 2018 that Investcorp would host a leadership programme that is uniquely designed to provide those partaking with a platform from which to develop their leadership skills and enhance their abilities to navigate the increasingly challenging global marketplace. In further news, Investcorp appointed Jan Erik Back as Chief Financial Officer. Back recently served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of a leading Nordic financial services group called NEB. With over three decades of experience in the industry, Investcorp is excited to welcome Back who is due to start with the company in mid-2018.
