Gregory “Greg” Barker (Lord Barker of Battle) is a British entrepreneur, strategic advisor and leader in the world of corporate sustainability and Green Economy.
Working closely with CEOs and founders within successful enterprises Lord Barker facilitates strategic planning and forecasting to set the foundations for growth. He sits on the board of a number of businesses and organizations and has managed many during IPO and high profile sales and acquisitions.
Outside of the corporate world, Lord Barker served as a Member of Parliament and Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change in the UK for the Conservative Party. In 2015, Lord Barker received a life peerage in recognition of his record as a minister and was created Baron Barker of Battle.

Gregory Barker is chairman and shareholder of the Electric Vehicle Network (EVN), the UK’s leading fast-charging infrastructure business. Since its launch in 2017, he has helped position EVNetwork as a sector leader.
Lord Barker also holds the position of chairman of the advisory board and acts as a strategic advisor at Powerhive, an innovative mini-grid and e-mobility enterprise based in East Africa.
He is a member of the board for Glassview, a forward-thinking US-based media company powered by neuroscience. Focused on delivering quantifiable results for brands, Glassview excels in advertising across connected screens through sophisticated algorithmic technologies.
Earlier in his career, before entering politics, Lord Barker invested in and helped lead the successful buyout and subsequent sale of Bartlett Scott Edgar, a recruitment advertising and employee communications firm, to TMP Worldwide.
Since standing down from the House of Commons, Barker has taken on several influential roles across the sustainability and clean energy sectors – both public and private. He chaired the London Sustainable Development Commission and provided strategic guidance to Europe’s leading solar energy firm.
From 2017 to 2022, he served as Chairman of En+, a London Stock Exchange-listed company and the world’s top producer of low-carbon aluminium, with a presence spanning five continents.
Lord Barker of Battle is currently a director of the Clean Growth Leadership Network (CGLN) and holds lifetime membership with the Aldersgate Group, reflecting his continued commitment to advancing climate action. His commitment to climate action has extended to trustee roles with the Environmental Defense Fund (Europe) and the Climate Group.
Beyond his environmental work, he supports cultural and educational causes—serving as a patron of London’s Garden Museum and as a governor at Lancing College, an independent school in Sussex. In recognition of his leadership in climate advocacy, the United Nations named him a “Climate Leader” in 2021.
Notable Investments and Business Achievements
Lord Barker has seen great success in his business ventures, holding a range of senior leadership and strategic advisory roles across the global clean energy and sustainability landscape. He advised Lightsource—Europe’s largest solar firm—on international expansion and strategic partnerships during a critical phase leading up to its sale to BP.
He served as deputy chairman of Ilios, a leading rooftop solar company in Mexico, where he led its landmark sale to Tesla. In addition, he chaired the European renewable energy investment firm Quercus through to its successful exit in 2021.
During his tenure as chairman of En+ he successfully managed their restructure and operations post IPO, and, also in this capacity at En+ he served as chair of the World Bank’s Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition for two consecutive years, beginning in 2020.
Lord Barker’s contributions to the sector were further recognized when he was nominated CEO of the Year in the Metals and Mining sector by Platts.

In 2019, Lord Barker of Battle was featured in edie.net for his leadership in steering En+ through a major corporate transformation, undertaken in cooperation with U.S. Treasury. As Executive Chairman, he played a central role in reshaping and improving the company’s governance structure, significantly reducing the influence of its former majority shareholder. His efforts helped reposition En+ as a global leader in low-carbon aluminium, embedding sustainability and transparency at the heart of its operations.
In 2021, Lord Barker was featured in CityAM, about how he spearheaded EN+’s low-carbon aluminium strategy, driving global sustainability and hydropower growth.
