Jeroen Bertrams is a Dutch investor with a deep interest in social media and digital marketing. He is known as the first official user of Google AdWords and AdSense in the Netherlands. Bertrams is an angel investor in his own capacity and a venture partner at Solid Ventures, a venture capital firm located in the Netherlands known for making investments in SaaS, Social Media and Venture Capital. He is also one of the most renowned and sought-after online marketing specialists and the author of several acclaimed publications. Bertrams regularly shares his expert knowledge as resident expert for Edition NL’s social media division and as chairman of the Examination Committee Online Marketing at SRM.

A Dutch native, Jeroen Bertrams spent his childhood in the Netherlands. After completing his basic education he pursued a bachelor’s degree in law at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. In 1992 he enrolled at the university again, this time with the goal of pursuing a master’s degree in economics. Bertrams graduated in 1998 and launched his career. His first role was as a marketing strategist at VODW. He worked at several marketing firms in the Netherlands through the years and started working in a freelance capacity in 2002. Later on his investments would include several companies throughout the Netherlands as well as a social networking website based in San Mateo, California in the United States.

Through Solid Ventures, the investor was involved in several lead investments in a range of successful Dutch and American technology companies such as:

Avinity Systems – A Hilversum, Netherlands-based software firm that provides technology and platforms for the services industry which was eventually acquired by ActiveVideo Networks. Solid Ventures was the lead investor in the series A funding round.

Respectance – Based in California, US, Respectance is a social networking site that allows users to create memorials to loved ones who have passed away. Solid Ventures invested an initial US$250,000 and an additional US$1.5 million as lead investor in series A funding round.

Mirror42 – Solid Ventures was involved in the series A investment round of this Amsterdam, Netherlands-based business intelligence company with an investment of US$1.5 million. Mirror42 SaaS that provides performance analytics solutions with the aim of improving KPIs related to IT business processes. 

BackupAgent – Delft, Netherlands-based BackupAgent is a SaaS cloud backup platform created for telecommunication companies, service providers and hosting firms. Solid Ventures invested US$1.2 million during the company’s series A funding round.

It was announced that Jeroen Bertrams and Solid Ventures made a major investment of US$5 million in CoolGames, an Amsterdam, Netherlands-based casual online games developer and distributor that uses HTML5 technology. The company was founded in 2009 by Laurens Rutten and received a total funding amount of US$7.3 million during its early stage venture funding round.
