Farouq Hassan – Tech Entrepreneur and Investor

Farouq Hassan is an Egyptian investor and entrepreneur. Known as a passionate and motivated person, Hassan is actively involved in creating new opportunities in digital technology. He has been involved in several startups and has vested interests in a diverse collection of companies.
In addition to his investments in North Africa, Hassan serves as a country advisor for International Accelerator, a company based in Texas, United States. His role involves building strategic relationships with private and academic organisations and government bodies with the goal to attract high-quality founders and startups.

Farouq Hassan was born and raised and Egypt. He attended Srour Language School where he focused on mathematics and science and graduated in 2009. Hassan then enrolled at Helwan University in Cairo where he studied computer engineering and graduated in 2014. He also achieved a certificate in marketing and public relations from the American University in Cairo. Hassan then took his education abroad to the United States where he studied technology entrepreneurship at Stanford University and social entrepreneurship and business at Indiana University.
Over the years Hassan worked in Cairo and Giza in Egypt and in California and Texas, United States. Hassan shared his extensive business knowledge with students while he worked for several years at Injaz Egypt as an entrepreneurship and business literacy trainer. During this time he offered awareness sessions in schools aimed at teaching students how to start a business. This initiative was called ‘It’s my Business’. He is also the director of the Cairo Chapter at Startup Grind, an international startup community located in California, United States, designed to educate, inspire and connect entrepreneurs. Hassan is mainly interested in investments in Africa, Asia, and the United States.

Most of Farouq Hassan’s most noteworthy investments are in the field of technology. He is the founder and former CEO of Egypreonics, a technology startup that provides digital security solutions. Other significant investments include:
- Zaytona – An Egypt-based eCommerce company that features an online shop selling clothing, footwear, handbags and scarves.
- Frien10 – An Egypt-based digital app that acts as a social club connecting people with others through a matchmaking algorithm that takes their character, location, interests and free time into consideration.
- Technovation – An Egypt-based company focused on providing networking options to people who reside in the Middle East and North Africa region who are interested in technology. Hassan was involved with Technovation for close to four years.

In January 2016, Farouq Hassan co-founded Zaytona, a digital store that sells fashionable clothing and accessories aimed at young veil women in Egypt and the Middle East. In 2015, Hassan co-founded Technovation, an organisation launched with the goal of creating education and networking opportunities throughout the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The ultimate aim of the organisation is to become a tech hub for technology entrepreneurs in the MENA region. In 2014, he co-founded Frien10, a social club aimed at getting people to meet offline and have genuine social experiences in person, as opposed to online interaction.
