About Iyinoluwa Aboyeji

Education and Career

Born in Lagos, Nigeria, in 1991, Iyinoluwa Aboyeji attended the Loyola Jesuit College in Abuja before enrolling in a Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies and International Development at the University of Waterloo and St. Jerome’s University in Canada. In 2010, while still a student, he co-founded his first startup, Bookneto, an educational platform that enables collaborative study through combined access to academic resources and social networking. Bookneto was acquired by the Canadian Innovation Centre in 2013. Returning to Lagos in 2014, Aboyeji co-founded Andela, a tech talent platform that connects international companies with highly skilled, remote software engineers across Africa and other emerging markets. Andela’s innovative model attracted investments from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Spark Capital, and Google Ventures, among others.

Future Africa LogoIn 2016, Aboyeji left Andela to set up his next venture, Flutterwave, a payments technology company that streamlines financial infrastructure for businesses across Africa. The startup soon became one of the fastest-growing payment technology businesses of all time, securing backing from top global investors, including Y Combinator, Mastercard, and Greycroft.

Since 2019, Aboyeji has been the CEO and Partner of Future Africa, the continent’s largest seed stage investment fund, providing capital, coaching, and community to bold and visionary leaders tackling Africa’s most significant challenges and turning them into business opportunities. The fund has invested in more than 100 startups across Africa, collectively valued at over $6 billion according to the company. Aboyeji also served as Deputy Director General for Oby Ezekwesili’s 2019 presidential campaign and serves on boards and advisory councils focused on advancing innovation and entrepreneurship across Africa. His public service includes roles on Nigeria’s Presidential Council on Industrial Policy and the 3MTT Advisory Committee for digital skills development

Remarkable Investments

Through Future Africa, Aboyeji has backed a diverse portfolio of companies shaping Africa’s digital economy. Notable investments include Moove, a mobility fintech company that offers vehicle financing to mobility entrepreneurs, particularly in Africa, with the goal of democratizing access to vehicle ownership, and Itana, Africa’s first Digital Economic Zone for technology and service-based businesses. Aboyeji’s investment strategy prioritizes entrepreneurs with a strong sense of purpose and vision to unlock Africa’s economic potential.
