Hélène Huby is the Co-Founder and CEO of The Exploration Company, a pioneering European aerospace startup on a mission to democratize space exploration, making it affordable, sustainable, and open. She is widely recognized as a transformative leader in European aerospace.
About Hélène Huby
Born in Paris in 1978, Huby graduated from the Ecole Normale Supérieure in 2003 with a Master’s degree in Economics and Applied Mathematics, followed by a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the Ecole Nationale d’Administration in 2006.
Her career began in the public sector at the French Ministry for Research and Higher Education, as Deputy Head of the Department for European Affairs. She later joined faberNovel, a leading digital transformation and innovation services provider.
In 2013, after relocating to Germany, Huby joined Airbus Defence & Space, and progressed through a series of strategic and operational roles. Initially joining as Head of Innovation, responsible for incubating and scaling a portfolio of new space businesses, she subsequently became Program Director of ArianeGroup, a joint venture between Airbus and Safran. In 2018, Huby became Vice President of Space Strategy at Airbus, responsible for delivery of the European Service Module of Orion.
In 2021, Huby left Airbus to launch her own commercial space startup, The Exploration Company. It holds the record for Europe’s largest-ever funding round in space tech, raising €150 million in Series B in November 2024. The Exploration Company has secured a number of strategic contracts with the European Space Agency (ESA) and private operators such as Starlab Space and Vast.
Huby co-founded and is a Board Member of SpaceFounders, the European space tech startup accelerator. She serves as Senior Advisor of venture funds, including Red River West, Prime Movers Labs, and Digital Growth. She is a Board Member of the deep tech startups Robeaute, ClearSpace, and Interstellar Labs. She is the Founder & Chair of The Karman Project, a non-profit foundation that fosters dialogue and cooperation in the space industry.
Notable Investments
Huby is the founder and chair of Urania Ventures, an investment company focusing on deep tech, space and advanced science, with 50% of its portfolio invested in space tech startups.
Her private portfolio includes Look Up Space, a Parisian startup developing space surveillance radar and associated processing for the real-time tracking of space debris. In 2023, Huby invested in the company’s € 14 million seed round – France’s largest-ever seed round for a space tech startup.
In the News
Huby is recognized as a Young Leader by both the French American Foundation and the France China Foundation. In 2023, she was awarded the French National Order of Merit for her services to European aerospace.
In March 2025, she was honored with the Monte-Carlo Woman of the Year Award, highlighting her achievements in positioning The Exploration Company as a formidable European contender in the space industry.
In May 2025, she received the Kiel Institute’s Global Economy Prize in the business category, for expertise, entrepreneurial spirit and exemplary leadership in her field.
