Earl Yu is a vice president and principal at WI Harper Group, an international venture capital firm specializing in early stage and growth investments in the United States, Asia Pacific, and China. His specific investment expertise is in technology, media and telecom (the TMT sector), which has allowed him to counsel WI Harper about opportunities in robotics, data, AI, and smart manufacturing.
About Earl Yu
Earl Yu, of China, holds a B.S. in Computer Science and Finance from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, in Chengdu, China, as well as an M.B.A. from Guanghua School of Management at Peking University in Beijing. Prior to joining WI Harper Group, Yu worked at China Unicom, a national telecommunications organization, currently the fourth-largest mobile service provider by subscriber base in the world. While at China Unicom, Yu oversaw the creation of Beijing’s first ever Ethernet passive optical network.
Remarkable Investments
Earl Yu’s expertise in the TMT sector helped WI Harper to become an early investor in QfeelTech, an AI and machine vision company from Beijing. WI Harper invested an undisclosed amount into the company during a Series A round in 2017, and QFeelTech was acquired by JS Global Lifestyle for close to $30 million in 2020. Another company Earl Yu put on WI Harper’s radar is Edigene, a Chinese genome editing technology company, which has achieved close to $180 million over 7 rounds.

In October of 2021, WI Harper Group, led by Principal Earl Yu, participated in a Series A+ round for a data governance and asset management platform called Datablau. The Series A+ round achieved around $14 million in funding. This was WI Harper Group’s second investment with Datablau, as they had previously participated in the company’s Series A financing round in 2017. In January of 2020, Earl Yu was awarded the gold award for “Uprising Entrepreneurial” at the Peking University Youth CEO Club Annual Conference in Beijing, China.
