Early Life

Cuban has been a natural businessman since age 12, when he started selling garbage bags to pay for a pair of expensive basketball sneakers. He later took advantage of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette strike by buying newspapers in Cleveland and selling them back in Pittsburgh.

After college, Cuban started his own computer consulting company MicroSolutions, eventually selling the company to CompuServe in 1990 for $6 million. In 1995, Cuban joined Audionet, co-creating Broadcast.com to stream audio media online, and it was later acquired by Yahoo in 1999 for $5.7 million. In 2000, Cuban purchased majority stakes in the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, who are currently listed as one of Forbes’ most valuable franchises in sports. He has been a Shark Tank investor since 2011, the same year in which he wrote the e-book “How to Win at the Sport of Business”.

Mark Cuban in the News

In September 2022, Forbes wrote an article about Cuban considering leaving Shark Tank. Cuban came across as someone who enjoys life and to whom investing is a competitive sports business. After briefly talking about his business and investment histories, the article goes into Cuban’s new pharmaceutical business, Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs. The aim of this project is to produce low-cost versions of expensive generic drugs and price them with transparency. Cuban has invested close to $100 million and insists that he will be pulling back from other projects to focus on this one.
