The main industries 10x Group invests in are B2C Internet companies, B2B and B2C marketplaces, B2B SaaS and Enterprise Software and other selected technologies. Preference is given to startups that are known as market disruptors, are already showing market fit and traction, and those who offer attractive unit economics. Wuttke’s personal strengths and expertise lie in business models, leadership, monetization, scaling organizations, fundraising, sales, marketing and internationalization.
Early Life
Originally from Munich, Germany, Robert Wuttke studied sociology of science at Bielefeld University. He was selected as a visiting scholar as part of MIT’s Science, Technology and Society Program, and consequently lived in Cambridge, Massachusetts between 1993 and 1994. Wuttke was also selected as visiting scholar and CIRED (CNRS) in Paris, France between 1994 and 1995. He then spent time in Europe, where he was the managing director and vice president of Lycos and responsible for the IPO of three German-speaking countries. The following year Wuttke spent time in London, where he worked as the entrepreneur in residence at Benchmark Capital. Since 2013 he has been backing founding companies across Europe and Silicon Valley in the United States. Through Gray Corp, Wuttke’s other investment vehicle operates companies in more than 30 countries.
Remarkable Investments
Along with Berlin Ventures, Cherry Ventures, Thomas Falk, Klaus Mutschler and Lothar Stein, Felix Haas and Robert Wuttke and his partners Andreas Etten, Jan Becker, invested over EUR3 million into enmacc energy trading platform. The motivation is to connect market participants in the energy trade with one another. The 10x Group also raised a substantial portion of the US$980,000 for Gustav, a contingent workforce management platform. Wuttke and his two investment partners, Etten and Becker, also use their private equity firm, Gray Corp, as an investment vehicle. Gray Corp’s core business is Internet and technology businesses that are suitable for internationalization. They are mainly involved with early, pre-seed and seed companies, as well as with initiators. Some of Gray Corp’s recent investments include Navinum, an online wine recommendation platform, Everbasics, a male fashion platform, Justbook, a last-minute hotel, and Kreditech, an online loan platform. As angel investor, Wuttke has invested in companies including Tripping.com, uBiome, Wondermall, Vacatia, AirHelp, Avanoo, Aloha, Avano, GBatteries, AuditFile and many more.

In October 2017 Munich Startup reported that Robert Wuttke is one of the prime German investors in the ‘German Accelerator’, as selected by Celebrating Innovation in October 2017. The initiative is aimed at German startups conquering the American market. Wuttke was quoted as saying that “Celebrating innovation makes it clear how many German startups also have a chance in Silicon Valley because of their quality.”
